Global Schoolhouse
Global Schoolhouse is on hiatus, but please visit our Youtube for past experiences! Watch this space for learning materials, video and images to support the Sustainable Development Goals in the classroom.
The Global Schoolhouse is an immersive educational experience for grade six students. Led by Volunteer ‘tour guides’, small groups of students walk though detailed sets and simulated scenarios which illustrate barriers to receiving, even a primary, education. The importance of the Sustainable Development Goals come to life for the participants as they face lack of healthcare, ongoing war and conflict, child labour, resource scarcity, and gender inequity. Sixteen showings are held over the course of eight days. Each session concludes with a group debrief and a call to action.
This simulated drama was open to public, private, and home school students. It's a unique experience, creating new levels of understanding and empathy as well as questions for further discussion. Kids do care about why other kids can't go to school!
