GLOBAL CITIZEN EVENTS

Events are done in partnership with various locally-based organizations and involve 500+ volunteers and 5000+ participants. Each event targets a specific age group or particular focus to encourage social responsibility and to inspire positive change by thinking globally and acting locally.

Founded by local community leaders in 2003, Global Citizen Events is an annual initiative.

Our mission is to: Entertain, Educate and Inspire to Action

ENTERTAIN: To communicate the role that we share as Global Citizens through the arts: music, photography, film and artisans. To celebrate the value of diversity in our Canadian mosaic and the significant contributions achieved through multicultural interactions.

EDUCATE. To bring awareness to the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by highlighting specific goals and what local people/groups are doing to reach those goals.

INSPIRE ACTION. To make concerted efforts to respond based on what we have seen and learned and take us from inaction to individual and collective action, and from disillusionment to hope

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals (officially known as the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs). These goals have the power to create a better world by 2030, by ending poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of clean water and sustainable communities. Guided by the goals, it is now up to all of us, governments, businesses, civil society and the general public to work together to build a better future for everyone.

GLOBAL CITIZEN EVENTS celebrates the efforts of individuals and groups in our community working toward these goals.
